The internet has largely become part of our lives. It can be used for searching information, shopping, communication, job searching, studying and research. Few years ago, we used to get up at wee hours in the morning and watch television or read the newspaper. Nowadays, most people make it a habit to log on to the internet first thing in the morning. What is internet really?
Basically, Broadband (Bredbånd) refers to the transmission of information though a wide band of frequencies. Information can be sent on many different channels and frequencies when there is a wide band of frequencies available. Information can be transmitted at a given amount of time.
By simply double clicking your Internet browser icon of choice, Google Chrome, Internet Explorer, Netscape or Mozilla Firefox, you can immediately start surfing. Of course, the fastness or slowness of the whole process will depend on the speed of your Internet service. Most like, it takes about 10 to 15 seconds to complete. You will not be dialing a specific phone number to gain access to the Internet unlike the old dial-up service. Because of the high access speeds, Bredband Internet service truly is the most commonly used form of Internet access.
There is a large difference between the Dial-up internet connection and bredband internet connection in terms of the technologies used to access the internet. Let’s draw out a comparison between the two. The old dial-up connection is a non-bredband internet service and is even relatively cheaper. Dial-up modems are limited to less than 56 kilobits per second and require constant use of a telephone line. However, most Internet users prefer the faster bredband Internet connection. Bredband Internet on the other hand, is a high-data rate connection. Bredband internet technologies supply faster rate and without telephone usage generally.
There are several types of internet service. One is Digital Subscriber Line, more often shortened to DSL. It makes use of telephone lines which does not cause any interruptions to your telephone usage. In terms of speed, determining your distance from the switching station is important. Your connection is slower when you are far from the switching station and is actually fast when you are rather near the switching station.
Another type of bredband internet is provided by your local cable TV provider-it is called Bredband Cable Connection. The determinant of the speed in this type of connection is the number of users at a specific point in time. For example, in a local area there are many people who use the connection at the same time, and then the internet connection will become slower.
The slowest internet connection, they say, is provided by the satellite. You can, however, consider the satellite connection better than the old dial-up one.
To overcome and improve from the shortcomings of the previous broadband service versions, the technology has come up with mobilt bredbånd. This service is mostly used by today’s generation. Problems with internet speed and frequency issues do not entirely depend on the internet providers but to the users as well; more importantly referring to their wide and ever widening number.
